The Pool of Tears

Commissioned work for the 150th anniversary of Alice in Wonderland.  In collaboration with The International Motion Festival of Cyprus , and the Pharaohs Art Foundation

She cries until she swims in her own tears, meets a cat, and eats some cake- not in that order.

“The Pool of Tears” is an interpretation of Chapter Two from Lewis Carroll’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” in which Alice is questioning the nature of reality itself and her identity within it. The video thus oscillates between HD footage and footage shot on a PXL 2000 (a plastic lensed video camera made by Fisher Price in the 1980’s that records video onto audio cassette tapes). The color HD footage is the perspective of the viewer, able to see the ‘full picture’, while the black and white PXL 2000 footage is the perspective of Alice, disoriented and uncertain.
